At PLANED our aim is to enhance the heritage and environment of the area by the adoption of good environmental practices and by safeguarding and interpreting the rich heritage and wildlife of the county.
Working with community groups PLANED has helped local heritage groups to research their local area and produce heritage leaflets, which are available on the Experience Pembrokeshire website.
Researching local heritage increases a community’s knowledge of what is in their area and reveals what makes a place special, distinctive and gives it it’s “Sense of Place”. PLANED encourages this journey of discovery about local distinctiveness through “Sense of Place” work, which includes themes on military history and industrial past.
PLANED supported more than 40 communities with the research and development of a Military History Guide to Pembrokeshire – “From Civil War to Cold War” and work is currently underway with a working group on the “Industrial Past of Pembrokeshire”.
Enhancing, preserving and interpreting sites of heritage and environmental interest improves what is on offer for tourists and makes their experience more enjoyable.
Festivals & Events
PLANED established and continues to support the Festival and Events Network in Pembrokeshire. This brings together the organisers of festivals and events across the county to share information and expertise. A training course on different aspects of how to run an event has been developed and networking events help organisers keep up-to-date with changing legislation.
We also publish an Annual Festival & Events Guide for the county. If you would like a copy, please email: firstname.lastname@example.org
With extensive contacts with accommodation providers PLANED has developed various programmes to support sustainable tourism including:
- Welcome Host – How to improve the visitor experience for tourist
- Greening Your Business – Making your business more eco-friendly and environmentally sustainable
- Developing Your B & B – A seminar on how to turn the dream of running a Bed and Breakfast into reality
- Sense of Place Tours – Organised tours for accommodation providers to increase their knowledge of the heritage and environment of the County so that they can help their visitors to enjoy their stay.
